Horizontal vs vertical — when do I use which?

Horizontal flip mirrors left↔right — the most common use is fixing selfies that come out mirrored. Vertical flip turns the image upside down — used for design layouts or correcting scans that were placed face-down.

Does flipping change the file size?

Effectively no — flipping is a pure pixel rearrangement, so the encoded output is similar in size to the input (sometimes 1-3% larger because compression heuristics work slightly differently on the new orientation).

Is metadata preserved?

We strip EXIF orientation hints on save, so the saved image bytes match what you see. If you need the original metadata kept, use Remove EXIF + this tool together.
